Procida 2022: opening ceremony postponed to spring

(ANSA) – PROCIDA, 04 JAN – The opening ceremony of Procida Italian Capital of Culture has been officially canceled: the inauguration event that was scheduled for Saturday 22 January has been postponed to spring.

With the passing of the baton from Parma, the year as the island’s Italian Capital of Culture will still start on January 14, but due to the increase in infections from Covid-19 and the restrictions provided for by Decree Law 221/2021 (which prohibits events that involve gatherings in the open) the control room of Procida 2022 – which brings together the Municipality of Procida and the Campania Region – has opted to postpone the inaugural ceremony scheduled for January 22.

“Our goal – underlines the procidano mayor, Dino Ambrosino – is to organize an opening ceremony that involves the whole community, especially young people, teenagers and children. We will be able to work peacefully only after confirming that the currently most widespread variant is less dangerous. In the meantime, I hope that families will seize the opportunity of the vaccine for the little ones “.

The forthcoming entry into force of the Super green pass for maritime transport also influenced the postponement: the program of the inaugural ceremony of Procida 2022 in fact provided for an articulated event that, starting from the mainland, would cross the Gulf of Naples to reach the island with theatrical performances. , parades and a fireworks display.

“We are convinced – explains the director of Procida 2022 Agostino Riitano – that postponing the date of the inaugural ceremony is a right and respectful choice. The great work done in recent months will not be dissipated, on the contrary it will continue to strengthen our vision of culture, less and less oriented towards mere entertainment and more and more generating civic participation and creating bonds. Despite the postponement of the inaugural ceremony, the cultural program will not undergo any changes “. (HANDLE).
