96% of the 18,000 cases of contamination on Tuesday were not vaccinated

Prime Minister Jean Castex assured that the vast majority of coronavirus cases detected in France were in unvaccinated people. “The contagiousness of this Delta variant obliges us, we must vaccinate,” alerted the head of government, Wednesday at 1 p.m. on TF1.

96% of the 18,000 cases of Covid-19 contamination identified on Tuesday were not vaccinated, Prime Minister Jean Castex said on Wednesday after the holding of a Health Defense Council at the Elysee Palace. “In the 4th wave, we are there,” said Jean Castex to the news of 13H of TF1, specifying that the number of contaminations had jumped by 140% in one week. “The world is facing a fourth wave, we must react. The contagiousness of this Delta variant obliges us, we must vaccinate,” urged the head of government.

Local measures to curb the epidemic

Jean Castex also confirmed that local measures could be taken to curb the spread of the pandemic, as is already the case in the Pyrénées-Orientales and Haute-Corse. “There is no question of managing without acting. In departments such as Pyrénées-Orientales and Haute-Corse, decisions have already been taken by the prefects,” said Jean Castex.

“The main thrusts of the strategy set by the President of the Republic during his speech on July 12 have been confirmed: vaccination, the health pass, referral to parliament in an extraordinary session to increase measures to fight the pandemic. J ‘hopes for promulgation at the beginning of August,’ the prime minister also said.
