the number of hospitalized patients goes back above 7000

The number of hospitalized Covid-19 patients rose above the 7,000 mark on Monday, including nearly 1,000 in critical care, according to figures from Public Health France which testify to the resumption of the epidemic. With 607 new hospitalizations in 24 hours, 7,079 patients are now treated for Covid in hospitals, against 6,843 on Sunday. The number of new hospitalizations has almost doubled compared to last Monday (360).

At the same time, critical care services received 135 new patients in 24 hours, compared to 16 on Sunday. This number of new 24-hour intensive care admissions had not been so high since the beginning of June. In total, 952 people are hospitalized in these services which treat the most serious cases, against 886 Sunday and 902 a week ago.

More than 5,300 positive cases in the last 24 hours

While France is facing an outbreak of contaminations due to the Delta variant, the pressure on the hospital has so far remained contained. 5,307 positive cases for Covid-19 were recorded on all the tests carried out in 24 hours, according to Public Health France. Monday’s figure is generally lower than the average for other days because the majority of labs are closed on Sundays. 45 patients died from Covid in 24 hours (compared to 20 the previous Monday), bringing the number of people who have died in hospital since the start of the epidemic, almost 18 months ago, to 85,183 and in total (hospitals and Ehpad) at 111.688.

On the vaccination side, Emmanuel Macron announced on Monday that the milestone of 40 million first-time vaccinated had just been crossed. A total of 40,264,973 people have received at least one injection (or 59.7% of the total population) and 33,624,428 people now have a complete vaccination schedule (or 49.9% of the total population).
