some vaccinated expatriates “tried ten times before they got it”

This is a necessary clarification for all expatriates on vacation in France. Access to the health pass for those who have already received their two doses of coronavirus vaccine will be simplified, announced the Secretary of State in charge of tourism, Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne in the Sunday Newspaper. From Monday, French people vaccinated abroad will be able to submit a request by email to have their protection against the virus recognized, with some supporting documents.

When he arrived in France, Yann, an engineer in the San Francisco region in the United States, tried to generate his health pass in a pharmacy. But the maneuver was impossible: the pharmacist’s system asked for the name of the practitioner who edited the prescription. “At that time, we couldn’t write anything because I was vaccinated abroad,” he explains.

Pharmacists “don’t know how to handle these cases”

A situation experienced by many expatriates on vacation in France. Gilles, also vaccinated in the United States, obtained his QR Code thanks to the goodwill of a pharmacist. “Some people tried ten times before they got it. I got my pass in five minutes,” he says. But he deplores all the same a lack of communication: “the health professionals are not aware. They did not know absolutely how to manage these cases”.

So this week, the government will set up an email address for French people living abroad. You will need to send proof of vaccination, identity document and proof of residence abroad to obtain your health pass.

Vaccines must be approved by the EU

But some, like Gregory in France since the start of the summer, still have questions. “What is proof of residence? Because if it’s a rent receipt, I’m not carrying all my papers!” He worries. For him, the situation is “neither done nor to be done”. “We want to follow the rules, but it has to be feasible,” continues Grégory.

The government has specified that only vaccines approved by the European Union can be used to generate a health pass.
