Bars, restaurants, cinemas, hospitals, transport: the health pass makes its debut this Monday in the daily life of the French, after having been validated almost entirely by the Constitutional Council and despite the protest in the street. On the eve of its entry into force, the government wanted to be reassuring, specifying that there would be a first week of tolerance and running-in for this new tool. After which sanctions will indeed be in force. And there will be as many violations as possible.

Up to 9,000 euros fine for restaurateurs

On the user side, if you are for example on the terrace of a cafe and you do not have a health pass, you now risk a fine of 135 euros. The same is true if you use a fake certificate. And the fine can go up to 3,750 euros if you commit the same offense three times within 30 days. Regarding restaurateurs, they must ensure that their customers have a valid health pass. If they do not carry out the checks, they run the risk of a formal notice, then an administrative closure. Finally, they incur a fine of up to 9,000 euros and one year in prison if the offense is noted three times in 45 days.

As for transport, the law promulgated on Friday specifies that the health pass is required for long journeys, except in cases of emergency preventing the obtaining of the required supporting documents. Transport service operators are obliged to check that passengers have a health pass. Otherwise, they are liable to a fine of 1,500 euros. A fine increased to 9,000 euros from three verbalizations in 30 days.

As for people using a relative’s pass, they will be liable to a 4th class fine of 750 euros (fixed at 135 euros if it is settled quickly), an amount which increases to 1,500 euros in the event of a repeat offense within 15 days.
