The president of Sanofi France Olivier Bogillot calls on the French to be vaccinated “now” against the Covid with the vaccines available, without waiting for the vaccine from Sanofi which “will not arrive for several months”, a position hailed by several doctors on the social networks. “Do not wait to get vaccinated! (…) Waiting only increases the risk and prolongs the circulation of the virus” indicates the head of the French pharmaceutical group in a message posted on the Linkedin network on Monday evening .
“We all want to get out of this crisis, so I tell you in responsibility, do not wait, now is the time to get vaccinated!” adds Olivier Bogillot, whose group announced the release of its first vaccine against Covid for December. “Vaccines authorized by health authorities are safe and effective. They save lives, spare serious consequences of covid-19, slow down its circulation and also protect hospitals from a new wave of avoidable hospitalizations, which allows them (…) to focus on non-covid-19 patients who require care “pleads the person in charge. “The coming weeks will be decisive for the start of the September school year,” he adds.
A message of “responsibility”
Sanofi, which has received much criticism from politicians accusing it of not having been able to develop an anti-Covid vaccine as fast as other laboratories or countries, has two irons in the fire on the subject of the coronavirus. On the one hand, the group has promised to put on the market in December a first vaccine developed according to traditional methods, and on the other hand it is working with the American group Translate Bio (which it announced at the beginning of August the takeover which should be effective in Q3 2021) on a latest generation vaccine technology known as messenger RNA, such as that used by the Pfizer BioNTech or Moderna laboratories.
Olivier Bogillot’s message was greeted by doctors or hospital officials, especially in the south of the country currently struggling with the rise of the 4th wave of the epidemic. Thus in Cagnes-sur-Mer (Alpes-Maritimes), Dr Jérome Barrière tweeted “bravo for the message of responsibility” from the boss of Sanofi. François Cremieux, Director-General of the AP-HM (University Hospitals of Marseille) said “thank you” to Olivier Bogillot: “This argument of ‘I’m waiting for Sanofi’: heard 100 times in discussions with professionals not vaccinated. Do not wait! There is an emergency “he wrote, also on Twitter.
