The vaccination obligation for caregivers against the coronavirus is again brandished by the Ministry of Health. The objective is clear, by September, 80% of staff will have to be vaccinated. And particular emphasis will be placed on nursing homes, where according to Olivier Véran, only 57% of caregivers have received at least one dose. “Not 100% convinced”

In this Ehpad, in fact, the debate sometimes takes place during the breaks. “We talk about it among ourselves. We ask colleagues who are vaccinated why they did it and the same for those who do not want to do it”, explains a caregiver.

Here, 70% of caregivers received the treatment. But there are still some reluctant. This is the case of Isabelle, who believes that she does not have enough perspective on the situation. “It’s a personal choice. We have fought for the dawn of time to get vaccines, but it still requires hindsight, and here I think there is none”, judge- it. “Of course we have a responsibility and I am very careful with what I do. But for now, I am not 100% convinced by the vaccine.”

“We are in a democracy”

So to try to convince the caregivers, the management mobilized and discussed with its staff. Florence Riaux, responsible for social life is working on it and trying to respond to Isabelle’s concerns. “She will think about it. Today she has not made the decision to be vaccinated, but maybe in some time it will be the case. The caregivers are asking themselves questions and we are there to answer them. The doctor The coordinator is also there to reassure them, but everyone’s freedom of choice must be respected, ”she says.

If the vaccine becomes mandatory for caregivers, Isabelle has already made her choice. “I’m quitting work, that’s okay. We’re in a democracy. I’d do something else, too bad,” she said. As for the management of the Ephad, it fears losing personnel in an area already under stress.
