O Carrefour (CRFB3) is investing R$ 68 million in scholarships and scholarships for undergraduate and graduate programs in public and private institutions.

The initiative is aimed at combating structural racism, and aimed at black people throughout the world. Brazil.

The focus is on courses where few black students enter, as is the case of the discipline of economy. A survey by Anbima revealed that only 29% of black and brown people invest in financial products in the country.

In addition to economics, the initial list of courses includes: biological sciences, medicine, dentistry, engineering, law, communication, computer science, administration and architecture and urbanism. However, it does not exclude other disciplines.

Lucio Vicente, Carrefour’s director of Corporate Affairs, highlights that, in addition to undergraduate and graduate courses, “the project also includes master’s and doctoral degrees, educational levels that do not usually rely on affirmative action”.

According to the retailer, the contribution is the largest private investment ever made to reduce racial inequality, and is part of a commitment to invest amounts that reach R$ 115 million, intended for education and income generation for the black population.

The public notice is now available at the Brazilian Center for Research in Evaluation and Selection and Promotion of Events (CEBRASPE), and universities will have to apply from August 31 to September 27.

In the distribution of scholarships, both undergraduate and graduate students at the beginning of their cycle, as well as students with an ongoing cycle, may be contemplated.

The registration of courses by educational institutions must be carried out exclusively by electronic means, by completing the form, through the CEBRASPE website. The form must be sent by the universities, as well as all the documents necessary to prove the requirements indicated in the public notice.

Carrefour and the job market

Carrefour launched in 2021 the first cycle of public notices, with about 38 organizations from all over the country, which fight to combat racism in society, and in the promotion and inclusion of black people in the job market.

With the support of Central Única das Favelas (CUFA), the retailer selected 18 young people from different communities in São Paulo, who are already interning at the company with up to 80% of their graduation or technology course funded by the company.

Carrefour has more programs aimed at professional careers and inclusion of black people.

Talentos do Futuro is one of them, focused on career acceleration. Another project is Transforma Tec, in partnership with the educational startup DIO (Digital Innovation One). The project made available 300 vacancies for scholarships in Fullstack Java, React and Cloud Development.

In addition to social causes, the retailer also took over the project Social Retail Schoolwhich was created in 2010, conceived by Big Group next to the Aliança Institute.

All young people aged 18 to 24 who have completed high school in public schools can participate in the project.

The idea of ​​the course is to guide young people to build their life and career project, with a methodology that contributes to personal and social formation. In addition to having contact with the context of retail relationships and information/communication technologies.
