O Mercado Pago starts to allow the customers of their digital account to separate the deposited resources according to the purposes of use for each party.
Called Reserves, the product is divided into three categories: organization, nest egg and emergencies.
The three allow setting values to be achieved and organizing finances for monthly expenses, for example.
According to fintechthe resources continue to yield in the same way as in the “original” deposits, and you can redeem them at any time, every day of the week.
The digital bank account pays 100% of the CDI on the amounts deposited.
“We build a tool so that people can increasingly manage their money”, says Ignacio Estivariz, director of Mercado Pago for individuals.
Other fintechs and neobanks have created functions for organizing money in different “folders”, such as Nubank, which created Caixinhas.
Much of the movement is due to customer demand. “When you ask people what kind of tools they want, they often talk about how difficult it is to manage their finances,” says Estivariz.
According to him, in addition to saving, customers also want to maintain profitability and flexibility in withdrawing money.
In this sense, Mercado Pago sees more advantages than savings – which yield below the CDI – and than long-term liquid investments.
The executive points out that most customers have savings, and that, for many, the passbook has always been the main financial product. “You introduce the digital account, and he is able to have a product that yields more.” According to him, the account is a gateway, and after a certain time, users start looking for other financial products, including investment.
Last month, Mercado Pago made available for a limited time a CBD with a yield of 200% of the CDI and redemption in the week of sexta-feira Negrain November, with an eye on the purchasing potential of customers in the Free market during promotions.
At the end of the second quarter, Mercado Pago had 17.3 million digital account users. Fintech does not reveal the volume of deposits.
