the airline Blue 🇧🇷BLUE4) announced this Monday that it will start its expanded operations in the airport from Congonhas at the end of March, with flights from the city of Sao Paulo for five capitals and Brasilia🇧🇷

THE National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) expanded Azul’s slots in Congonhas this month and with that the airline will increase the landing and departure times from 41 to 84 movements per day at the airport.

THE company had already informed earlier this month that it would launch the expanded operation at the main airport in the country. On the occasion, the chief executive, John Rodgerson, commented that the total slots in Congonhas will be responsible for around 10% of the company’s daily flights in Brazil.

The cities to be operated by Azul de Congonhas as of March will be Porto Alegre, Curitiba, Belo Horizonte, Recife and Rio de Janeiro, in addition to Brasília, an unprecedented route for the company.

“We found that our entry into the air link (Rio-São Paulo) in 2019 reduced the average fare price and increased flight options. This significant expansion will now once again benefit our customers as a whole,” said Fábio Campos, director of institutional relations at Azul, in a press release.

Azul stated that it will operate in Congonhas mainly with Airbus A320 neo jets and Embraer aircraft.

The company will have five daily flights departing from Congonhas to Santos Dumont (RJ) and six departing from this airport to the São Paulo terminal.

In addition, Azul will operate four daily flights from Congonhas to Confins (MG), four to Recife, four to Brasília, five to Porto Alegre and 1 to Curitiba.

According to Azul, Congonhas will increase the number of landings and takeoffs from 41 operations per hour to 44 movements as of March 26, for a total of 582 commercial flights per day.

The airport has previously operated at 52 movements per hour, the company said.
