The fee of investment of Brazil was 19.6% of the GDP in the third quarter of 2022, as shown by the IBGE in its Quarterly National Accounts Indicators report, which represents an increase in the annual comparison, when the country recorded an investment rate of 19.4% in 2021.

This is also the highest indicator value since 2014, when the country registered a rate of 20% in the 1st quarter of the year.

Previously, the rate surpassed the value of 20% on two occasions, in the 3rd quarter of 2009 and in the 3rd quarter of 2012, when the IBGE calculated a rate of investment of 21.5% of GDP.

Paulo Guedes, Minister of Economy, said at an event held by Petrobras 🇧🇷PETR4) and Bank of Brazil 🇧🇷BBAS3) in May of this year that the investment rate in 2022 would reach the 20% mark, and that this result would be driven by the performance of the private sector.

The fee of investment in Brazil it is calculated by the proportion between the Gross Fixed Capital Formation (GFCF) and the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

The GFCF is the operation of the National Accounts System (SNA) that registers the expansion of the future productive capacity of an economy through current investments in fixed assets.

In other words, they are “produced goods that can be used repeatedly and continuously in other production processes for a period longer than one year without, however, being effectively consumed by them”, as explained by the IBGE.

GDP is the sum of all final goods and services produced by Brazil. In the 3rd quarter of 2022, the economy grew by 0.4% compared to the previous quarter.
