Steve Aoki and Justin “3LAU” Blau announced this Tuesday (6) that they will form a group called Punx. Motivated by friendship and united by their NFTs from the CryptoPunks collection, the group intends to release new music soon.

Both are established musicians in the market, however 3LAU says that together with Aoki they plan to offer a new style of electronic music through the Punx project.

“We bring it to you: PUNX 10 years of friendship has led to this moment. We are pleased to present a conceptual music/art project partially inspired by our own cryptopunks nfts. @itsthepunx’s sound will be unlike any of our current sounds, really.”

The project was born out of NFTs, however the artists did not say that they will mint a Punx NFT at the beginning. The duo previously released their first song together, “Jenny”, as an NFT in 2021.

“This is not an NFT,” said 3LAU. “But that doesn’t mean there won’t be future moments where our music and blockchain technology [serão] interconnected.”

Steve Aoki changed his Twitter profile picture to CryptoPunk #6748 – his NFT which he acquired for 89.95 ETH or $147,000 in September.

3LAU’s CryptoPunk is Punk #6708, purchased in March 2021 for 29.99 ETH, which was around $51,000 at the time.

“Over the past few years, we’ve navigated the insane world of Web3 together,” said 3LAU, also co-founder of music marketplace NFT Royal, in a statement about his friendship with Aoki. “We can’t wait to share with the world a new sound and all the crazy ideas we’ve been cooking up in the studio”, he concludes.
