Twitter Plans to Raise Blue Subscription Price to $11 for iPhone Users

O twitter plans to raise the price of its Twitter Blue subscription service from $7.99 to $11 if paid through the app in iPhonesand reduced to $7 if paid on the site, the Information website reported on Wednesday, citing a person familiar with the matter.

The measure is likely a reaction to the 30% fee charged by the apple in any payments made by users through apps on the iOS operating system, according to the report.

The Information didn’t mention whether pricing will change for the Android platform as well.

Musk, who took ownership of Twitter in October, plans to launch the social network’s verified service with different colored badges for individuals, companies and governments, after an unsuccessful attempt led to an increase in users posing as celebrities and brands on the platform.

Twitter, Apple and the Googleowner of the Android operating system, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Musk, in a series of tweets last week, listed several grievances against Apple, including the 30% fee the company charges software developers for in-app purchases.

He also posted a meme suggesting he was willing to “go to war” rather than pay the commission.

Later, Musk met Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook at the company’s headquarters and tweeted that the misunderstanding about the social network potentially being removed from the App Store had been resolved.
