“Today I received with satisfaction a letter from President Xi Jinping, reinforcing his congratulations on the electoral result, the friendship and global strategic partnership between our countries and the long-term vision of relations between Brazil and China”, said the president-elect in a publication on Twitter.
In addition to diplomatic relations and positions in the geopolitical game, China is one of Brazil’s main trading partners.
Current President Jair Bolsonaro and his supporters have adopted anti-China rhetoric since the beginning of his term, but controversial statements that caused unease with the country gained more strength during the Covid-19 pandemic.
