The last two runners-up teams in the world will decide a place in the final of the Qatar World Cup🇧🇷 Argentina, who lost in 2014 to Germany, will face Croatia, defeated by France in 2018.
The Argentines defeated the Netherlands on penalties in the second game this Friday (9).
The match had dramatic contours. Argentina opened up two goals ahead (one scored by Nahuel Molina, after a stupendous pass by Lionel Messi, and the other in a penalty converted by the number 10), but ended up conceding a tie in the last minute of normal time, in a masterfully rehearsed move executed by the Dutch .
In overtime, he had numerous chances to score, but stopped in the belly of defender Virgil van Dijk, in the hands of goalkeeper Andries Noppert and on the crossbar. Lucky for him, when it came to penalties, Emiliano MartÃnez’s star shone. The Argentine goalkeeper saved two free kicks and was the hero of the standings.
In the fifth World Cup of his career, Messi will play in his second semi-final in the most important football competition on the planet (the first was just eight years ago). Argentina will finish the Cup among the four best teams on the planet for the sixth time (it was champion in 1978 and 1986 and runner-up in 1930, 1990 and 2014).
Croatians and Argentines will duel on Tuesday, in Lusail, for a place in the decision of Qatar-2022. The other semifinalists of the tournament will be known this Saturday, after the clashes between Morocco and Portugal and England and France.
