In 13 states, supporters of Lula and Bolsonaro unite to lead assemblies; parties dominate almost all

If during 2022 elections PT and PL had antagonistic actions, mainly for the decision for President of the Republic, this position was reversed for the composition of the boards of directors of the Legislative Assemblies of the states.

In 13 states, the two parties agreed to unite to divide the leaders of the houses, with representatives of the two parties composing the same ticket.

In Rio, the deputy Rodrigo Bacellar (PL) was elected president of the House with votes from the PT, which received the third vice-presidency in exchange, in addition to the promise to lead outstanding commissions. The same double marked the choice in Minas Gerais and can still be repeated in São Paulo.

Even in states considered essentially PT or Bolsonarist, alliances between PT and PL were registered. Examples were given in Santa Catarina, Paraná, Bahia, Alagoas, Amazonas and Mato Grosso. There was no dispute in the Paraná Assembly. The ticket to occupy the presidency was unique and headed by Ademar Traiano (PSD), reappointed to office for the fifth consecutive term – which is possible because each State has its own rules for limiting re-election.

In São Paulo, the only state to swear in its new deputies in March, the election for the Board of Directors should mark the end of an era dominated by the PSDB. With the election of Tarcisio de Freitas (Republicans) to the state government, the expectation is that PT supporters will help Andre do Prado (PL) to become president. Under the agreement, the PT, owners of the second largest group, would remain with the first secretary, responsible for the House’s contracts.
