Construction company owners are investigated for scams in Minas Gerais

The Civil Police of Minas Gerais (PCMG) opened an inquiry to investigate a man and a woman who owned a construction company accused of scamming customers of Belo HorizonteEsmeraldas, Betim, Ouro Preto, Sabará, Brumadinho, Formiga and other cities in the state.

According to radio report Itatiaiathe couple who own construction company Casas Luxus – specializing in wooden houses – are suspected of abandoning works by several properties. Customers sought out Rádio Mineira to report the case and they estimate that the damage is close to R$ 1 million.

According to the Civil police, the company already has five lawsuits and two precatory letters in the capital of Minas Gerais. As a result, customers claim that their constructions were abandoned after making full or partial payment for the service.

To Itatiaia, customers explained that Luxus asked for full payment or the down payment upon signing the contract. The remainder was paid in installments.

However, the construction company’s owners still requested additional amounts and abandoned the work after paying the financed amount.

Police on the builder’s tail

In a note sent to the press, the Civil Police clarified “that the crime of embezzlement is a public criminal action subject to the representation of the victims, who must attend the police station closest to their residence to propose the proper criminal representation”.

Therefore, the police launched this Monday (20) investigation on suspicion of embezzlement.

Itatiaia says that the construction company Luxus denies that it applied the scams and cites difficulty due to the covid-19 pandemic to move forward with the works.
