Small businesses in the Gyms and Physical Activities, Creative Economy and Beauty sectors are the most optimistic about the recovery of the Brazilian economy in 2023. According to the Pulso dos Pequenos Negócios survey, carried out by Sebrae It is IBGEthese three segments, which were among the hardest hit by the pandemic, now have good prospects, even in a general scenario marked by uncertainty.

According to the survey, 86% of Gym and Physical Activity entrepreneurs expect a better result this year compared to last year. This optimism is followed by the Creative Economy (76%) and Beauty (75%) businesses.

The picture contrasts with the reality experienced by these segments during the pandemic, when they were among those that registered the greatest losses and among the last to return to pre-crisis revenue levels. In March 2020, for example, Creative Economy companies recorded an average loss of 86% in revenue and suffered again with the second wave of the pandemic, when revenue fell by 64%. A reality similar to the Beauty segment, which, according to a Sebrae survey carried out in April 2022, still suffered from an average loss of 34%, leading among the most affected sectors at that time.

For the president of Sebrae, Carlos Melles, the fact that these three sectors are the most optimistic about the recovery of the economy can be understood as a result of a consumption trend that was consolidated with the end of the most critical phase of the pandemic: the search for good -being and self-care.

“The pandemic has imposed losses, stress and physical and emotional wear and tear on the population. It is natural that now, with the situation under control, people value products and services that provide quality of life, health, moments of relaxation”, he comments. Melles.

On average, the Sebrae and IBGE survey identified that 67% of small businesses expect better revenues this year, compared to 2022. Only 19% of entrepreneurs expect a worse year and another 14% believe they should maintain the same result as last year past.
