The president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva embarks for China on April 11 for a visit that will include a meeting with the Chinese president, Xi Jinpinginformed this Friday the Planalto Palace, a trip rescheduled after Lula was diagnosed with mild pneumonia last week.

According to Planalto, Lula should meet with Xi on the 14th. Before that, he will arrive in Shanghai on the 12th, where he will participate, on the 13th, in the official inauguration ceremony of the former president. Dilma Rousseff as the new head of the New Development Bank, the bank of Brics, headquartered in the Chinese city. On the same day, the 13th, he goes to Beijing.

Lula’s intention is to maintain most of the scheduled agenda for the trip that would take place this week, with the signing of at least 20 agreements between the two governments, according to sources with knowledge of the plans.

The agendas with Brazilian businessmen, however, will not take place, since a good part of them kept the trip in the original schedule, even without Lula, and several private agreements have already been signed.

The rite of state visit should be maintained, with a meeting with Xi, with the Chinese Prime Minister, Li Qiang, and a visit to the National People’s Assembly, the country’s Congress. There should also be a visit to the Huawei factory, the Chinese telecommunications giant and one of the main targets of US boycotts in the area.
