the french TotalEnergies and the government of Rio de Janeiro signed a memorandum of understanding that aims to collaborate with the development of offshore (maritime) wind generation industry in the state of Rio de Janeiro, the company said in a statement this Friday.

Lasting two years, the agreement includes the company’s collaboration in studies related to fiscal and tax incentives and the expansion of the GRID system for future projects.

TotalEnergies highlighted that it has been evaluating areas since last year for environmental licensing of offshore wind projects.

At the end of 2022, the company also signed a memorandum with Prumo Logística, the holding company controlled by the EIG and responsible for the development of the Port of Açu, for studies aimed at installing logistical support bases in Açu to support wind projects that may be developed by TotalEnergies.

O Brazil began to look at offshore wind generation in recent years, amid the strengthening of the energy transition agenda, but local undertakings still lack definitions, mainly regulatory ones, to get off the ground.
