The Director General of the Regulatory electric sector AneelSandoval Feitosa, said this Thursday that there is no irregularity in the request for judicial recovery of Light via holding, when speaking at an event in Rio de Janeiro.

The statement comes amid questions about the step taken by the Lightincluding by the Rio Public Prosecutor’s Office, which filed a lawsuit requesting the suspension of the court decision that authorized the judicial reorganization.

In the action, the MPRJ questioned the fact that the recovery of the Light holding provides for the extension of benefits to the group’s energy distributor and generator.

This was the arrangement found by Light to protect its distributor –the focus of the group’s financial problems–, since, by law, concessionaires of public energy services cannot resort to judicial or extrajudicial recovery regimes.

Sandoval also said that a possible anticipation of the renewal of Light’s energy distribution concession will depend on the granting authority. The company’s concession contract expires in mid-2026.

Last month, the Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveirastated that companies with management problems in the distribution of electricity could not be admitted in concession renewal processes, and cited Light.
