O Flamengo reached revenue of BRL 1.2 billion in 2022, growth of 9%, continuing to lead among Brazilian soccer teams, according to Sports Value.
Without the impact of player transfers, the club’s revenue growth was 30% compared to 2021. Significant increases with matchday and marketing boosted the numbers, said the consultancy.
Flamengo football costs reached R$ 748 million, up 8%, and football represented 64% of revenues.
The club ended the year with the biggest surplus in Brazilian footballR$ 136 million, and debts were at the lowest level in history, R$ 259 million.

What has changed
The 20 most relevant teams in figures reached BRL 7.5 billion in revenues last year, according to the consultancy. In 2021, in inflation-adjusted values, the teams’ revenue was R$ 7.4 billion.
According to Sports Value, clubs have not yet surpassed pre-covid-19 revenue, due to high inflation in Brazil. The biggest increases of 2022 were box office +329%, partners +43%, transfers +7% and marketing +7%.
Revenues from TV rights fell 17%, due to the return to normal payments. “There is a lot of room to grow. TV rights in 2019 were BRL 2.9 billion, in updated values”, said the consultancy.
Also according to Sports Value, TV rights and awards represented 40% of total revenues, compared to 52% in 2021. Transfers reached 20% of the total, the same as the previous year. Marketing revenue represents 16% and is consolidated as the third most important.
Income from supporter members and social clubs increased from 9% to 12% of the total. The box office went from 2% to 8%. “Brazilian football needs to leverage marketing and digital revenues and create recurring revenue generation from the digital transformation of its businesses,” he said.
