Remembrance Day: ceremony at foiba Basovizza commemorates victims

(ANSA) – ROME, 10 FEB – The solemn ceremony on the occasion of the Remembrance Day began at the Foiba di Basovizza, on the Trieste Karst, an anniversary established in 2004 to commemorate the victims of the sinkholes, the Julian-Dalmatian exodus and the dramatic events on the eastern border in the years at the turn of the Second World War.

The celebrations at the National Monument take place in a restricted form, in compliance with anti Covid regulations, and are promoted by the Municipality of Trieste and the Committee for the Martyrs of the sinkholes. Present, among others, the president of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Massimiliano Fedriga, the mayor of Trieste, Roberto Dipiazza, the parent company of the Chamber, Debora Serracchiani, civil and military authorities.

The banners of the Municipalities of Trieste, Muggia and Duino Aurisina are lined up in the ceremony area; and again that of the Fvg Region. In addition, flags and banners of the representatives linked to the exiles. Among others, even some adherents of the X Mas with their banner.

After the flag raising ceremony, organized by the Piedmont Cavalry Regiment 2 / o and by the National Alpine Association – Trieste section, laurel wreaths were placed in front of the large foiba by the Region, Prefecture and Municipality of Trieste, by of the president of the Committee for the Martyrs of Foibe and of the National League, Paolo Sardos Albertini, and a crown from the representatives of the Istrian exiles, Fiumani and Dalmati associations.
