Defense Minister of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov supported the legalization of weapons in the country.

This was stated at a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada, which is broadcast by the TV channel Ukraine 24.

Legalization in Ukraine

The Minister noted that in principle there is no law in Ukraine that regulates the circulation of weapons.

“I am convinced that this needs to be done. In our country, only this is regulated by departmental acts. Therefore, I sincerely believe that the Ukrainian parliament will finally adopt a law in which everything will be normalized,” he said.

Rada decision

In 2021, the Verkhovna Rada did not support the draft law No. 4335 on the legalization of firearms in Ukraine in the first reading. Only 88 deputies voted for the relevant document, and 74 votes for alternative No. 4335-1.

The deputies not only failed to vote for 4335, but even refused to send it for revision to the committee or the author. The same fate awaited bill 4335-1.

The bill on the circulation of civilian firearms and ammunition wanted to establish the following categories of civilian firearms:

  • A – automatic firearms;
  • B – smooth-bore short-barreled firearms (traumatic);
  • C – short-barreled firearms;
  • D – long-barreled firearms;
  • E – long-barreled rifled and combined firearms.

Recall that the site “Today” talked about all the pros and cons in the issue of arming Ukrainians and whether there will be rampant crime in the case of free possession of weapons in Ukraine.
