Adm-Gdf, + 200% sanctions on the Gran San Bernardo tunnel in 2021

(ANSA) – AOSTA, 19 FEB – Despite the decrease in traffic volumes due to the health emergency, in 2021 the checks on the Italian-Swiss border carried out by the Adm officials of the territorial operational section of the Gran San Bernardo tunnel with the military of the Finance police. Sanctions have increased by over 200% compared to the pre-pandemic period.

Currency offenses amounted to almost 700,000 euros for 63 violations. Violations for possession of narcotic substances are also growing: 121 between marijuana, hashish, cocaine, amphetamines, hallucinogenic mushrooms and LSD. On this front, a Nigerian passenger was found in possession of two cocaine ova.

There were 15 reports of findings against travelers who attempted to bring foreign goods into the Italian territory without paying border fees (smuggling). The seizures involved foreign manufactured tobaccos, computer equipment, ancient coins, Rolex watches and perfumes. But also a BMW X5 SUV, with a foreign license plate, driven by a citizen residing in the European Union in the absence of the required customs procedures. Officials also confiscated a Piaggio Vespa that was stolen and thus returned to its rightful owner. Several weapons were also seized, including a cleaver, a crossbow, a brass knuckle and a taser, which were transported without authorization. Also seized 110 kg of meat and sausages found in a car, badly preserved and without tracking labels. (HANDLE).
