Hundreds in the square in Foligno for peace in Ukraine

Young people, Mattarella:

(ANSA) – PERUGIA, 26 FEB – The Ukrainian community of Foligno, supported by dozens of associations, students and ordinary citizens, took to the streets this morning to say “no more war”, begging for help. About 300 people gathered in Piazza San Domenico, including the bishop of Assisi-Foligno, Msgr. Domenico Sorrentino who thus brought the comfort of the Church by invoking peace and asking for “an immediate cessation of the fighting”.

“We want a free Europe and to do so we must all be united, we cannot accept what is happening in our country”, a lady in her sixties told ANSA with tears in her eyes. “In Ukraine – he adds – I still have my mother, my son, my grandchildren. Everyone is afraid of him (Putin, ed), but Ukraine is not and you will see that in the end we will win this war”. Various women – most of them work in Italy as a caregiver – take turns at the microphone and speak in the square, recounting what is happening in Ukraine, also giving updates that arrive minute by minute on their smartphones. “We have civilian casualties – explains one of them – from bombings from the air. We are not asking you to intervene in the war, but help us, we need your support”.
