Ukraine: humanitarian mission for displaced persons leaves Sardinia

(ANSA) – CAGLIARI, 03 MAR – It is led by a Sardinian, Claudio Cugusi, regional president of Anas Sardegna, the national mission of the voluntary association network that will bring a ton of medicines to Ukraine and then lead women and children on the run to Italy from the country attacked by Russia.

About ten vehicles depart from the island this morning, including ambulances, vans and off-road vehicles. Meeting at the Dopolavoro Ferroviario then the convoy will stretch by other means between Capoterra, Oristano and Nuoro for boarding in Olbia in the evening. Once the Tyrrhenian is crossed, Sardinian humanitarian aid will join, between Bologna and Padua, with those of the national network of Anas with other aid also coming from southern Italy.

“At the moment – explained Cugusi on his departure from Cagliari – medicines are mainly needed. For the return, the Anas network has already received four hundred requests”. The destination is that of the Polish border. There is already an Anas delegation there that is working to organize the collection of aid that is about to arrive and to prepare the return march with mothers and children. Full ambulances: there are diapers, gauze, burn ointments, sterilizers. And medicines for Lviv psychiatric patients: a particular request given that supplies are starting to run low there. About fifteen volunteers are involved from Sardinia.

Meanwhile, tomorrow, on the initiative of the Accademia del Rescue and Sos Elmas, a bus full of basic necessities will leave for Ukraine. The same bus will bring about fifty people fleeing the war to Sardinia with priority for women and children. (HANDLE).
