Covid: A day in Bologna to remember the 3,700 victims

(ANSA) – BOLOGNA, 07 MAR – From Alda, born in 1914, to Mahmoud, born in 2019. Remembering the pain of people beyond the data on the pandemic. This is the aim of the initiative – presented this morning at Palazzo D’Accursio and sponsored by the Municipality of Bologna, Ausl, orders of doctors, midwives, nurses and coordinated by the Italian Red Cross and by Cefa onlus – which will be held on Sunday 13 March from 10 at midnight in Piazza Maggiore, in Bologna, on the occasion of the national day in memory of the victims of Covid-19, set for March 18 by law 35 of 2021.

To commemorate the 3,700 victims of the province of Bologna, the names and year of birth will be displayed on aluminum plates, positioned on the ‘Crescentone’ with LED candles. “We must not wither, but live the pain for what it is – said Massimo Bugani, Bolognese councilor for relations with the city council – because only by being moved can we turn towards a rebirth”.

During the day, which will be attended by health workers, the mayor, Matteo Lepore, and representatives of religious communities, the names of the victims will be read interspersed with prayers and reflections. “Behind these 3,700 stories of pain there are the suffering of relatives and friends, but there is also the closeness of the world of health workers who have been fighting relentlessly for two years – added Paolo Bordon, general director of the Ausl in Bologna. – it is right to celebrate a collective pain and the memory of people who have been most unfortunate “.

Finally, as announced by Giovanni Beccari, coordinator of the initiative for Cefa, the idea in the future is to dedicate a monument in the city to the victims. “In order to be able to remember forever – he explained – we would like to set it up in the gardens around the hospitals to remember the effort put into the logic of saving lives”.
