Ariana is a 2980 gram baby girl born prematurely at 12.57 pm on Saturday, after a long journey in the womb to escape from Ukraine and find refuge in Eastern Veneto. The very young mother, not yet 20 years old, had arrived in Italy on Thursday after being picked up by her grandmother at the border with Hungary together with her minor brother and the mother of the two, while her father had been blocked at the border.
The stress of a divided family, the war, the journey of over 1500 km, probably led to the premature birth but the epilogue of the sudden event was certainly a happy ending: Ariana and mother Anna are fine and part of the family with them. it’s safe. It happened yesterday afternoon at the San Donà di Piave hospital where the obstetrics and gynecology staff welcomed with particular affection the young Ukrainian who underwent an urgent caesarean section immediately after arriving at the hospital.
“The newborn was assisted by neonatology, she has no problems, and even the mother undergoing surgery is fine – explains the pediatrician Antonella Tonetto present at the time -. Unfortunately the mother does not know Italian but she continued to say ‘ thank you ‘and she is very happy. Her grandmother helps us with the translation “.

The mother’s first request was to announce the birth to her father, in Ukraine. All with no little difficulty in hooking up the telephone line of the country at war: “The sweet face of this baby girl – continues the doctor – the tired but happy smile of her mother, the distant voice on the phone of her father, who managed to protect her family, do justice to the gift of life “.
The Ukrainian family was brought to Italy by grandmother Halyna who has been working as a caregiver in San Stino di Livenza for 19 years: as soon as conditions allowed, she hired a driver to go in person to the border between Hungary and Ukraine and bring the family members.
The newborn was given a handmade outfit by the Cuore di Maglia Association, which has been collaborating with the Neonatal Pathology of Ulss 4 for some time.
