(ANSA) – VATICAN CITY, MARCH 18 – Quoting the Gospel of John, as Russian President Vladimir Putin did, “is certainly a sacrilegious act”, “he can no longer find arguments to justify this madness, an unjustified aggression and totally immoral “,” is a real blasphemy “. This was stated by Monsignor Bruno Forte, theologian and archbishop of Chieti.
Putin quoted the Gospel of John (chapter 15, verse 13): “There is no greater love than giving one’s life for one’s friends”.
Monsignor Forte comments: “It is certainly a sacrilegious act, an exploitation of the Gospel aimed at self-justification. It shows all the profound weakness of Putin who can no longer find arguments to justify this madness of an unjustified totally immoral aggression”.
The Italian theologian and archbishop underlines: “The innocent victims who are dying as a result of this aggression certainly cannot be justified with evangelical words that say the opposite, love for others and even love for enemies”. For Monsignor Forte, Putin adds “to the very serious sins he is staining with that of an authentic blasphemy: using God to justify the evil done touches the apex of immorality and even madness”.
