Mafia: in the Bari area olive trees with victims’ names on confiscated lands

Ukraine, Moscow:

(ANSA) – BARI, MARCH 19 – One hundred secular trees named after the innocent victims of the Apulian mafias make up the olive grove of memory inaugurated today by the Libera Puglia association on the land confiscated from the mafia in Valenzano and managed by the social cooperative ‘Seeds of life’. The olive grove is an educational garden available to schools and citizens. “A land that is starting to bloom again and that represents a collective memory”, says Libera Puglia, explaining that “on each tree the plates allow you to access the stories of the victims with a QRcode. The centuries-old trees symbolically give life back to the people whose name they bear , trees that live for centuries, trees of peace “. The initiative was attended by the relatives of some of the victims of the Apulian mafia whose names are now imprinted on the trees planted on the 26 hectares of confiscated land on which the ‘Fattoria dei primo’ project has been launched for three years. Today’s event is part of the initiatives in view of the 27th Day of Remembrance and Commitment in memory of the innocent victims of the mafia which occurs on 21 March. (HANDLE).
