(ANSA) – TERMOLI, MARCH 25 – The war reclamation activity starts today in the stretch of sea in front of the island of Pianosa, in the Tremiti archipelago, banned from navigation since 1972 by order of the Port Authority of Manfredonia (Foggia ). The area was affected during the Second World War by the fall of numerous aerial bombs. Over 40 bombs were found around the islet, located in front of San Domino, of which 29 were of the “Demo” type.
Today the Coast Guard of Termoli (Campobasso) has issued a new ordinance with the prohibition of a long stretch of sea adjacent to Pianosa to allow the verification of the seabed in order to ascertain whether the numerous ferrous masses are all ordnance or not.
The sub-company Technical Edil Services, on behalf of the Municipality of the Tremiti Islands (Foggia), will carry out for the next 120 days the underwater systematic war reclamation activity performed with Mini Rov SeaBotix LBV150-V and Bcm / Ots operators.
The motor ship “Ariete 5 Ba 830” and two support boats will also be used. The operations will be carried out in the area of approximately 120 thousand square meters. (HANDLE).
