Confiscated assets for 6 million euros from an online betting entrepreneur

(ANSA) – PALERMO, MARCH 26 – The state police confiscated the assets of Benedetto Bacchi, 50, for about 6 million euros. The provision was issued by the preventive measures section of the court of Palermo on the proposal of the commissioner Leopoldo Laricchia. The seals for 10 real estate assets, 7 companies operating in the construction and gaming and betting sectors, of which some located in Malta, 4 vehicles, 6 financial relationships, a corporate share and credit rights equal to 300,000 euros of a company operating in Terni.

Bacchi, an entrepreneur in the online gaming and betting sector, was arrested during the Game Over operation of the Palermo mobile team. According to the accusation there was in the management of the betting system “the interest of the mafia both in the distribution of the gaming and betting rooms on the territory”.

According to the magistrates, Bacchi enjoyed the support of the mafia family of Partinico and, in particular, of Francesco Nania, 52, as well as the Palermo mafia families of San Lorenzo, Resuttana, Porta Nuova, Noce and Brancaccio.

The entrepreneur in the first instance was sentenced last October 26 to 18 in prison accused of external competition in mafia association, unfair competition aggravated by the mafia method and for the crimes, also aggravated by the aforementioned circumstance, of criminal association aimed at abusive exercise of gaming and betting activities, aggravated fraud, fraudulent transfer of values, use of money, goods or benefits of illicit origin. Among the confiscated assets there is also a villa in viale Margherita di Savoia in the seaside resort of Mondello.

The same decree also applied the preventive measure of the special public security surveillance with the obligation to stay for a period of three years. (HANDLE).
