(ANSA) – VERZINO, MARCH 26 – The murder of Luigi Greco, the woodcutter killed in Verzino in the Crotone Presila, could have been preceded by an ambush attempt. This is what emerges from the first investigations by the Carabinieri of the Cirò Marina Company and the Crotone Investigative Unit who conducted Vito Avenoso, 64 years old father-in-law of the victim, to the barracks. He was going to be the one to shoot the victim’s apartment. A murder that, from the reconstruction carried out by the carabinieri, would have been preceded, in the early hours of the morning, by an attempted ambush in the countryside between Caccuri and Cerenzia (municipalities in the Crotone area bordering Verzino) where the victim had gone to collect wood .

Greco, who from the investigations is known to the police, was killed by shotguns loaded with buckshot and died on the veranda of the apartment. At the door of the house, the 18-year-old son Francesco was also injured, while another son of the murdered man managed to save himself. The shotgun used to carry out the murder was found in the victim’s home.

Between the victim and the father-in-law, according to what emerged from the first investigative findings conducted with the coordination of the deputy prosecutor, Pasquale Festa, there had been previous family disagreements which also arose in a legal case for alleged abuse in the family that the victim allegedly exercised against of his wife, daughter of Avenoso.

Greco was shot in the chest while his son was shot in the head. (HANDLE).
