Ukraine: citizens network Modena recovers refugees in Poland

(ANSA) – MODENA, 27 MAR – Simple citizens have created a ‘network’ in Modena that has allowed nine Ukrainian refugees to be brought to Italy, including four minors, by going to pick them up directly on the border between Poland and Ukraine, in the localities of Przemysl and Medyka, where citizens fleeing the war arrive mainly on foot. The initiative was promoted via social media by Cristina Giacomelli, a Modenese who, after witnessing the Russian bombing on TV, decided to promote the project on Facebook and through other channels.

Crowdfunding was also born in this way and Confapi Emilia made an important contribution; among the participants there was also Stefano Bianchi, director of Confapi Emilia. Starting from Modena on Friday, three vans full of basic necessities were organized. The trip was attended by volunteers, entrepreneurs and lawyers. Subsequently, four other vans from Alexandria joined, belonging to an association (the Sie, already operating in support of citizens fleeing the conflict) who loaded an additional 29 refugees. The vehicles that left Modena on Friday stopped in Krakow in the evening to deliver basic necessities (including masks) to those who are following the humanitarian emergency in Poland. Yesterday the arrival in Przemysl, where refugees were loaded, who between the afternoon and the evening of today will be reunited with other compatriots who live in Italy. (HANDLE).
