(ANSA) – VATICAN CITY, MARCH 27 – The Pope returns to the Angelus to pray for the end of the war in Ukraine. He spoke of the “bestiality of war”, a “barbaric and sacrilegious act”. “War cannot be something inevitable”, underlined the Pontiff.

“There is a need to repudiate war as a place of death, where fathers and mothers bury their children, where men kill their brothers without having even seen them, where the powerful decide and the poor die”, the Pope continued. ” More than a month has passed since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine, since the beginning of this cruel and senseless war which, like any war, represents a defeat for all, for all of us “, he recalled.

Then he lit a beacon on refugee children: “War not only devastates the present but also the future of a society. I read that since the beginning of the aggression in Ukraine, one in two children has been displaced from the country. This means to destroy the future, to cause dramatic traumas in the smallest innocents “.
