(ANSA) – SASSARI, MARCH 30 – After a month in a coma, the conditions of Caterina Mancusa, the wife of Basilio Saladdino, the retired policeman killed with an ax by her son-in-law on February 26 in Porto Torres, who remained herself, worsened wound.

The 70-year-old woman struggles between life and death in the intensive care unit of the Santissima Annunziata hospital in Sassari.

The wounds inflicted on her by Fulvio Baule, who repeatedly hit her in the head with a hatchet, were very serious. Ilaria Saladdino, 39, daughter of the couple and wife of Baule, also dying on the evening of February 26, remains hospitalized in the same intensive care unit, in a coma.

The 40-year-old murderer from Ploaghe attacked Basilio Saladdin at the height of a violent argument that broke out in front of the apartment building where the pensioner lived. The man was arguing with his wife Ilaria, from whom he had separated a few months earlier. The former policeman had intervened in defense of his daughter and had been hit with the ax that Baule had taken from his car. With the same weapon he then hit both her mother-in-law and her wife, leaving them dying in front of the couple’s two children, two twins just over 1 year old. A few hours later the man was presented to the carabinieri: locked up in the Bancali prison, he is currently accused of murder and double attempted murder (ANSA).
