(ANSA) – MODENA, 02 APR – On the run from Mariupol, a city devastated by the Russian army, to Sassuolo, in the Modena area, where she gave birth to Nicol, a three and a half kilo girl on Wednesday afternoon. This is the story of 31-year-old Ukrainian Yana. The woman lived in a basement for weeks when she was ninth month pregnant, eating only once a day. Her sister, Karyna, has lived in Sassuolo for five years and, having no more news of Yana, she feared the worst in her.

But the 31-year-old managed to get her brother to pick her up by car, through one of the humanitarian corridors and then get on a train that took her from Krakow to Vienna, where family members were waiting for her. “I crossed half of Europe – explains the 31-year-old -. Now I have to recover and stop being afraid of all sounds, especially the noisiest ones that remind me of bombings”. The little girl was initially supposed to be called Victoria, but then her grandfather insisted that she opt for Nicol, in order to avoid even the most distant reference to the war. (HANDLE).
