(ANSA) – ROME, APRIL 09 – The Cross – remote center for medical rescue operations – activated by the Department of Civil Protection for the coordination of urgent medical assistance for Ukrainian citizens, is continuing to guarantee the transfer of patients present in neighboring countries to Ukraine. Since the beginning of the emergency, 100 patients have been transported via MedEvac (medical evacuation), thanks to 14 air missions carried out by the Guardia di Finanza and private carriers.
In particular, from 28 March to 8 April, a total of 42 patients assisted by the health services of the regions of Liguria, Piedmont, Lombardy, Veneto, Tuscany, Lazio, Marche, Abruzzo and Emilia-Romagna were transferred.
Cross, as part of the European Civil Protection Mechanism and in response to the specific request of the Directorate General for Health and Food Safety of the European Commission, will continue, in conjunction with the regional health representatives, the recognition of the beds available in the Regions and Autonomous Provinces and the organization of patient transfers.
In addition, the activity of Disevac – Disability evacuation – delle Misericordie di Italia continues: a service that guarantees the protected and assisted evacuation of frail, non-ambulatory people with wheelchairs and bedridden on stretchers from the border between Poland and Ukraine to the ‘Italy.
