(ANSA) – CAGLIARI, APRIL 13 – Ludovico Bellu is 23 years old, he is an autistic boy, one hundred percent disabled. He does not know how to speak, for him his father, the operators who follow him do it, and his mother did, before her disappearance in April 2021 at the age of 62. Ludovico, Ico for family and friends, is a handsome boy who loves life very much. He loves the sun and the sea, swimming and running. He lives with his father between Cagliari and Rome. But in her heart she also has Imola, the city where she was born, and where she took her first steps in the profession, her mother, Marina Garbesi, journalist for the Republic, author of articles on the toughest years of the mafia and kidnappings, murders, freemasonry and diverted services.

Ludovico immediately acted to remember her. All the mother’s 1,300 books dedicated to national and international current political and social issues were donated to the Municipal Library of Imola which has already cataloged them and made them available to readers. This donation gave rise to the idea – shared by the Municipality of Imola and the “Impresa e Professioni” association – to establish a Journalism and Graphic Novel Award named after the mother: it will be awarded in 2023.

“It is a way of affirming the right to happiness, which is not a pitiful concession. A reward which is an act of love for the mother and also an extra tool to defend oneself and those like him.”, Clarifies the Ico’s father, Giovanni Maria.

The event will be presented on Thursday 15 April at 4.45 pm at the Teatro dell’Osservanza in Imola. There will be Ludovico, through the voice of the actor Federico Caiazzo, the writer Carlo Lucarelli, the director of Linus Igor Tuveri (Igort), the special correspondent of Repubblica Maria Novella De Luca and Valter Galavotti of Usaram (Regional Union of Associations for Mental health). The awards will go to the works that will be able to tell in the most effective way the good practices that affirm the rights and, on the contrary, the abuses that violate them, starting from the analysis of the present and the memory of the effort that has been made to conquer them.
