(ANSA) – TAORMINA, APRIL 15 – Jesus Christ interpreted as a martyr in the war in Ukraine. This is the meaning of one of the stations set up in the churches of Taormina for Easter. In the parish of San Giuseppe, in Piazza IX Aprile, one can observe the passion of a Christ wrapped in military uniforms. The reference to what is happening in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine is evident. All this is part of the path of reflection initiated by the parish priest, Father Carmelo Lupò, called “The time of thorns” ‘which sees in all the city churches positions that address the most disparate themes: “thorns of anguish” in the Cathedral; “thorns for women”, Varò church; “thorns of hunger”, church of S. Caterina; “thorns for orphans”, S. Antonio Church; “thorns of torture”, S.
Sunday; “thorns for refugees”, San Pancrazio church; “thorns for creation”, church of S. Antonio abate; “waiting among the thorns”, Madonna della Rocca sanctuary.
“The title relating to the thorns of the church of San Giuseppe – commented Lupò – refers to the barbed wire of the barricades of the wars and to the crown of thorns of Jesus”. (HANDLE).
