This was announced by the National Alpini Association, specifying that the memorial stone had been placed by the same Association in front of the “Sorriso” kindergarten, a childcare facility that houses 180 children, built in 1993 by Alpine volunteers and donated to the city as a sign of reconciliation and brotherhood.

On the small monument, stylized and superimposed, an Alpine hat and the star symbol of the Russian Army were found, while the plaque carried the inscription “From a tragic past, a present of friendship for a future of fraternal collaboration”.

The Alpini remember that in recent days also the Friendship Bridge built by the Alpine troops at Nikolajewka on the Valuji river was defaced with the white Z while the silhouettes of the Alpine hats were covered with a sheet metal.
