(ANSA) – VARESE, APRIL 16 – Firefighters are still working to put out the fire that has been destroying several hectares of wood on the San Quirico hill in Angera (Varese) since last night. The Canadair from Ciampino (Rome) are also arriving on the spot.
Citizens who yesterday were forced to leave their homes will remain away from home for today as well. The mayor Alessandro Paladini Molgora, who is following the interventions, after the possibility that the historic church on the top of the hill had been destroyed, wrote on social media that “the foreman of the fire brigade managed to climb the hill of San Quirico”, and confirmed that “while the whole hill around is a burnt ember, a ghostly scenario, the church has not been touched by the flames and is intact”.
