(ANSA) – ROCCELLA JONICA, APRIL 28 – New landing of migrants in Roccella Ionica, in Locride. After the 71 refugees of various nationalities who arrived last Sunday after a rescue operation by the Coast Guard off the Ionian coast of Calabria, about 180 migrants of various nationalities arrived today afternoon but mainly Lebanese, Palestinians and Syrians. Among them also 40 women and about fifty minors including twenty under six years of age. Also in this case, the landing followed a rescue operation carried out off the coast of Bianco by the soldiers of the Roan of Vibo Valentia and by the financiers of the naval section of the Fialle Gialle of Roccella Ionica.

With today’s landings there are 9 landings in the Roccella port in these first four months of 2022. In the twelve months of 2021, 49 of the 55 arrivals in the Ionian coast of Locride had occurred in the Roccellese port structure alone, for a total of over 6 thousand migrants.

Before disembarking, the migrants were on board an iron fishing boat of about twenty meters located about 15 miles from the coast of Bianco by the soldiers of the Financial Police. From the first checks it would seem that the boat left in the night between last Saturday and Sunday from the coast of Libya. After disembarking, the refugees were subjected to the molecular swab test by the specialized staff of the provincial health authority of Reggio Calabria.

Subsequently, at the disposal of the Prefecture of Reggio Calabria, they were temporarily placed in a tensile structure recently built inside the Roccellese port and managed by the volunteers of the Red Cross and Civil Protection. (HANDLE).
