(ANSA) – PESCARA, APRIL 29 – The postponement of today’s hearing of the trial for the tragedy of Rigopiano was well known since the beginning of April, when the consultants appointed by the Gup Gianluca Sarandrea went to the site of the avalanche to finish the study on the causes of the disaster that, on January 18, 2017, led to the collapse of the resort and the death of 29 people. For the families of the victims, however, the return to court this morning was rather bitter. They had to take note of the fact that the Gup granted an additional 60 days for the delivery of the final report. The deadline will therefore no longer be set for 12 May, but will be postponed to July. At this point, future scenarios also change. With the closure of the court for the summer break, hearings will not resume until October. The next scheduled dates are those of 26, 27 and 28 October and then 9, 10 and 11 November. Even if all this shouldn’t affect the timing. The judge, at the resumption, seems willing to proceed with the three weekly hearings to arrive at a final sentence by the beginning of 2023 at the latest.

The relatives of the victims are embittered. This morning at the Palazzo di Giustizia in Pescara there were several family members of the 29 people who lost their lives in the resort overwhelmed by the avalanche. “We knew of the thirty days required to carry out the appraisals – explains Gianluca Tanda – but we later learned of the sixty from the press. Today we are here to understand the reason well. Also because the appraisal made by the Prosecutor is more than valid and we are very convinced that all the other experts of the judge and not partisan will do an excellent job. We hope that there will be certain convictions. We will see the closure in 2023. Today they have made a fixed calendar. The fear of prescription is there, even if minimal, and that minimum we have to sweep it away. We cannot go home with the doubt of telling our loved ones that we do not know who is the culprit. We want to know and ask from the beginning who are the guilty and who the innocent. Now we have to work on the content of the hearings – concludes Tanda – It was not nature’s fault. The responsibilities must be ascertained “. (HANDLE).
