Large ships: Venice, protest in the water to ask for a stop

(ANSA) – VENICE, APRIL 30 – Protest by boat in Venice to say stop to large cruise ships. A dozen boats with a hundred people on board met this morning at the Zattere, in the Giudecca canal, to then head towards the mainland port of Fusina. The boats passed in front of Marghera – where ships dock this year to avoid passing through San Marco – to return to the historic city along the Vittorio Emanuele Canal.

The demonstrators waved the flags of the ‘No navi’ movement and some banners reading ‘No ships in the lagoon’ and ‘The lagoon is unique’. In particular, with these words, it was emphasized that after the stop at the transit for San Marco through the Lido inlet, the deviation on that of Malamocco and the progressive realization of landings in Marghera, now it is asked to remove in toto the arrival in the city of cruise ships of excessive tonnage, the so-called skyscrapers of the sea.

Following the demonstration, four boats belonging to the various police forces. There were no problems. (HANDLE).
