Melillo is the new anti-mafia prosecutor, defeated Gratteri

(ANSA) – ROME, MAY 04 – Giovanni Melillo, 61, from Foggia, head of cabinet of Andrea Orlando when he was Minister of Justice and currently head of the Naples prosecutor’s office, is the new national anti-mafia and anti-terrorism prosecutor. He appointed the plenum of the CSM by a majority with 13 votes. Defeated the prosecutor of Catanzaro Nicola Gratteri, who was the direct competitor of him and who obtained 7 votes. Five votes went instead to Giovanni Russo, deputy and up to now regent of the national anti-mafia and anti-terrorism prosecutor.

Melillo was supported by the Area and Unicost groups, by the laity Michele Carabona (Forza Italia) and Alberto Maria Benedetti and Filippo Donati (M5s) and by the first president Pietro Curzio and by the Attorney General of the Cassation Giovanni Salvi. The ‘independent’ robots Sebastiano Ardita and Nino Di Matteo voted in favor of Gratteri, and the three members of Autonomy and Independence, the laity Stefano Cavanna and Emanuele Basile (Lega) and Fulvio Gigliotti (M5s), rapporteur of the proposal in favor of the boss of the public prosecutor of Catanzaro. Instead, the entire group of the Independent Judiciary and the layman of Forza Italia Alessio Lanzi voted for Russo. (HANDLE).
