Faith, Nadezhda, Love and Sophia: what absolutely cannot be done on a holiday

On September 30, the Church commemorates the Day of the Holy Martyrs Faith, Hope, Lyubov and their mother Sophia. This holiday was based on tragic events
, according to which three young Christian women and their mother were martyred for their faith.

Traditions of the day of Faith, Hope, Love and Sophia

On September 30, women named Vera, Nadezhda, Lyubov, Sofia celebrate their name days. These names commemorating important Christian virtues
, have long been very popular.

And the day itself was named Ecumenical woman’s name day
… Traditionally, all women were congratulated on this holiday.

In the church they prayed to the holy great martyrs
and asked for health for children and mothers, for getting rid of female diseases, as well as for the safe conception of a child.

On this day, there was an interesting custom, according to which women should cry well and lament, talking about their misfortunes, and only after that they should start making holiday pies. This rite was considered a powerful amulet
, taking all troubles and illnesses away from the family.

Feast of Faith, Hope, Love and Sophia: the main prohibitions of the day

• as in any other significant church holiday, on the day of Faith, Hope and Love you cannot quarrel, swear, scandal
  , wish someone harm;
• on this holiday, women should not perform dirty homework as well as hard work
  : do not sew, wash, cut, clean, etc .;
• it was considered a bad omen on this holiday to play a wedding, get married, as well as propose and plan an engagement

• after the festive dinner, it was impossible to throw away the leftovers of food.
