(ANSA) – BARI, 06 MAY – Eight drivers of Amat, the public transport company of the Municipality of Taranto, were indicted by the gup Rita Romano, accused of abusing a girl on board the buses, today in her twenties, suffering from psychic deficit. The girl was convinced in 2020 to report her abuse by her boyfriend. And in July 2021 the accused, under investigation for aggravated sexual violence, were notified of a ban on approaching the young woman and the company suspended them from service.

According to what was reconstructed by the investigations, the drivers parked the buses in isolated places, blocked the doors and then abused the disabled girl. The trial will begin on July 7th. The Amat, wholly owned by the Municipality, filed a civil action through the lawyer Claudio Petrone.

Yesterday, during the hearing in the Council Chamber, the alleged victim of the abuse was heard in a protected form and, without using the word “violence”, confirmed his initial version of the facts. The drivers would have taken advantage of its fragility which, according to the Roman judge, was “well known to all”, subjecting it to abuse in the bus parked in secluded places: for example under an overpass near the terminus of the merchant port or near one of the gatehouses of the former Ilva factory.
