‘Ndrangheta: appeal confirms acquittal of Ps officials

(ANSA) – CATANZARO, 13 MAY – A confirmed acquittal and reform of the first instance sentence with the acquittal of the other two accused as well. This is the sentence issued today by the Court of Appeal of Catanzaro against the former head of the Vibo Valentia Mobile Squad Maurizio Lento, the former deputy Emanuele Rodonò (defended by the lawyers Veneto and Nucci) and the lawyer Antonio Galati del Foro of Vibo Valentia from the accusation of external complicity in mafia association. The fact does not exist is the formula used by the judges.

The two police officers had been acquitted in the first instance of the charge of external competition and only Rodonò had been sentenced to one year for disclosing office secrets. The appellate judges confirmed the first instance sentence for Lento and acquitted Rodonò. Same decision for the lawyer

Galati (defended by the lawyers Francesco Gambardella and Sergio Rotondo) who had been sentenced to 4 years and 6 months for external competition in the mafia association. The prosecutor of the DDA of Catanzaro, Annamaria Frustaci, had asked for Galati to be sentenced to 7 years and 8 months, and to 6 years for the two police officers.

They were all accused of having favored the Mancuso clan of Limbadi but these disputes fell, for Lento already in the first instance, and for the other two on appeal. The trial originated from the operation conducted in February 2014 by the Carabinieri del Ros and the Catanzaro mobile squad with the coordination of the Catanzaro DDA. (HANDLE).
